No rules!

January 8, 2008

Last night I performed for the very first time my new song… “Drifting into the sublime.” I think I did a pretty good job with the song and I was quite please that it was well received. Or… it felt like it was well-received. I was smiling as I wrote that last line because I played before a home town crowd who were gracious and encouraging all evening! What a blessing that was!!!

Getting back to the song…

The piece is very simplistic… and who knows, for a hard core finger-stylist maybe too simplistic? But recently I’ve decided to approach my writing with a ‘no rules’ attitude. In other words… it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks! As long as I make an emotional connection with the song I am writing… then I am happy!

Drifting into the sublime completely does that for me. It takes me back to that initial feeling (and inspiration) when I started to play those first few notes that became this gentle expression of my heart and life.

I like this new approach to writing & composition! It’s so free and liberating!!!

Why as an artist and musician did it take so long to get to this point in my life? Oh well… no matter, I am here now and my BEST days are ahead!!!
